Musical Director: Ian Turner MD

Ian, born in Broadway in the lovely Cotswolds, fell in love with music at an early age, firstly taken up the Recorder before following in his two elder brothers footsteps taking up the Trombone with the School Band. The highlight was auditioning for Opportunity Knocks, in the presence of the late Hughie Green; unfortunately by the time they were to appear on the popular TV programme Ian had left School! Who knows what might have been! Ian and his brothers were well known locally, making up the Trombone section of many of the local bands.

Ian continued his Trombone playing after leaving School and has played with some of the foremost and successful Brass Bands & Orchestras throughout the Country. A few of the highlights he remembers are his time playing alongside Don Lusher (the world famous Trombone player with the Ted Heath Band and Leader of the fantastic Don Lusher Big Band and Orchestra), doing a Duet with Ronal Barron (Bass Trombonist with the Boston Pops & Symphony Orchestra) at Symphony Hall Birmingham, as well as playing with Black Dyke performing Trombones to The Fore (one of 16 Trombones on the night!)

In 1998 Ian fulfilled a long standing ambition of conducting when he took up the baton with Stour Concert, the concert band of Shipston Town Band (current 4th Section Champions-West Midlands). Ian still goes back and helps out when time allows.

In 2005 Ian moved from his beloved home town and came “Tup North” where he now lives with his wife Sarah (Solo Baritone with Audley Band). Ian quickly got involved with local bands, first of all playing Trombone before setting up the training band at Mereside Brass. This was followed by being appointed MD of Rode Hall Band. During his time with Rode he took them to the world famous Whit Friday Marches achieving notable success, competing amongst some of the most famous and successful bands from across the UK. After leaving Rode, Ian was appointed MD of Tarporley Silver Band, a post he still holds today. After auditioning to be the “Grimley Colliery Band” in the stage version of BRASSED OFF, Tarporley was chosen and will be performing in February 2011 at the fabulous Brindley Theatre in Runcorn with the Centenary Theatre Group. Ian started his association with Audley Band when in 2009 he was asked to “help” out at a concert on Trombone, this was to be a one-off appearance but lasted some 18 months! Before being appointed MD in 2011 Ian has a simple vision on banding, Enjoy, Develop and above all Entertain the audience that come to listen & watch. When his music allows Ian is a National Account Manager representing many famous food brands which you will know: Bernard Matthews, Moy Park, Linda McCartney, to name but a few.
